Polymers, Unconventional Media and Clean Processes

Promotion of sustainable development through research on clean processes more respectful of human being and his environment.

Polymer production by clean processes.

Design/use of polymers as additives to develop clean processes (encapsulation, functionalization, extraction, preparation of structured materials).



Four priority areas :

1) processes in aqueous media,

2) processes in supercritical carbon dioxide media (=scCO2 as alternative solvent),

3) photopolymerization,

4) plasma polymerization (solvent-free processes).



Solvent-free processes

  • Photopolymerization (photocrosslinking, copolymerization acceptor/donor without photoinitiator). 
  • Plasma polymerization (hybrid materials, surface functionalization, grafting of dendrimers on support, development of nano-objects like brush).


Alternative solvents

  • Processes in water (radical polymerizations in emulsion, miniemulsion, dispersion and suspension ; stimuli-responsive copolymers).


  • Processes in dense CO2 media (synthesis and characterization of CO2-philic/CO2-phobic copolymers as surfactants, polymerization, emulsification, dispersion / encapsulation, extraction).
