Education and Experience

Julien Pinaud received his B. Sc. in material chemistry from University of Bordeaux in 2005. He then joined the group of Professor Daniel TATON and Doctor Yves GNANOU in the same University to study janus-type dendrimer-like poly(ethylene oxide) and organocatalasis by N-heterocyclic carbenes, for which he received a M. Sc. in chemistry in 2007 and a Ph.D. in 2010, respectively. After his Ph.D studies, he completed his postdoctoral training under the supervision of Professor Mickael F. Cunningham at Queen’s University (ON, Canada), while working on redispersible latexes using CO2 as an external trigger. In September 2012, he joined the team Ingénierie et architectures macromoléculaires at University Montpellier 2, where he is currently working as associate professor.

Research Interests

  • Organocatalysts for polymerization reactions :
    • Designing new organic catalysts for polymerization reaction
    • Study of organocatalyzed polymerization reactions (mechanism, kinetics…)
  • Polymerizations in aqueous dispersed media
    • Free radical polymerization in emulsion
    • Controlled radical polymerization in emulsion
    • Ring opening polymerization in miniemulsion
